Disconnect
gas line With power vent and flue dampered heaters, unplug electric cords. With these heaters, avoid malfuctions and problems by installing dedicated outlet and surge outlet so only the water heater is connected to that breaker and line is protected from interference and volt-amp spikes. Remove pipe or flex connector connecting to gas control valve. Absolutely keep end of pipe clean Gas line can be reused. Use yellow teflon tape when reconnecting gas line to new heater ... and keep tape off last thread where is can enter gas line and ruin new gas valve. Buy: Flexible gas line

Build wood frame to slide water heater from attic Measure diameter of water heater and make sure it will fit through attic opening. Set 2x4's close enough to leave clearance so water heater does not catch on cross supports. Use extra runner boards ... like a 1x2 nailed on top of 2x4 so the 2x4s can be wider apart for more stability.  |
