contactor block Contactor block is made to attach onto contractors and motor controls.
There are a wide variety of contactors.
Not every contactor has the contactor block attachment.

The contactor block is activated pneumatically when the contactor energized.
Contactor pulls down a plunger on the contactor block.
The contactor block is electrically separate from contactor wiring, and can be used with separate voltage. For example, control a 12-24 volt AC-DC circuit.
The contactor block does not require electric power to function ... it is activated mechanically.
The block can also be wired as shown, using the coil-control voltage for the contactor
The block can be wired to another contactor to control large amp loads.

The benefit of a contactor block is the addition of on-delay and off-delay function to circuit.
When contactor energizes, the delay period on the contactor block begins.
Contactor shown is analog, and is set to approximate time using dial on face of block.
Other blocks are digital, so times can be set precisely. Except the digital block needs a neutral connection to power the digital time-clock.
Recommend adding a fuse on the hot wire supplying voltage to both the contactor block and to the contactor coil.

contactor block 3 basic ways to wire contactor block
Top illustration: One hot leg from three-phase + neutral
Add circuit control hot leg from three-phase
Use for contactors with 120V, 208V, 277V coil

Middle: Two hot legs from three phase
Add circuit control to either or both hot legs from three-phase
     Use for contactors with 120V, 240V, 208V, 277V, 480V coil

Bottom illustration: Separate voltage for coil and contactor block
Add circuit control to either or both wires going to coil
     Use for contactors with 120V, 24V, 240V, 208V

How to identify transformer wiring/ 3-phase or delta
Terminal identification
NC terminals = Off-delay = load turns ON immediately, turns OFF after delay and remains off until contactor is de-energized and then re-energized.

NO terminals = On-delay = load turns ON after delay period expires and remains On until contactor is de-energized

Delay period starts when contactor is energized.
Definite purpose contactors generally do NOT have connection for contactor block

3-pole contactors

Definite purpose contactor
Relays do NOT have connection for contactor block
Contactor is on or off, SPDT
Relay has 2 sets of points, DPDT, when one set of points is ON the other is OFF, and then reverses when coil is activated.
Coil voltage 24, 120, 240
