How to install trim on pocket door/ finish painting |
| For paint: For trim: Use high-quality 2 or 2 1/2" angle-sash brush. For walls, use 3" angle sash. Oil base paint, use bristle brush Latex use polyester brush. Any brush that sheds bristles into the paint is no good. New brush will occasionally drop a few lose bristles... but continual loose bristles is a single to buy better brush. |

door. Cut notch in side of
door and attach

The left side door jamb
does not come with the pocket door. Buy standard door jamb. Make sure width of jamb matches width of pocket door frame. Slightly wider or narrower is fine. More than 3/16" difference can be a problem when applying trim and caulk |

Re-install door trim. Sand
lightly and clean trim, and apply a coat of paint before installation. Be careful to use short nails on the pocket door frame side. Here's where the trick comes in for the jamb on left side: nail trim onto jamb, then carefully position the jamb then nail trim into wall... this is easy way to get a perfect fit. The new jamb will look best and provide privacy with 2 pieces of door stop so the door slides between the two stops. This will ensure the door does not have an crack when fully closed. That way the door can be slightly out of square and it isn't noticeable. Reinstall baseboard. Caulk cracks and spackle nail holes, then sand spackle smooth before painting.
