P1353 manual with wiring diagrams

P1353ME is a 3-circuit, 24 hour programmable timer with 3 on-off events per day, per circuit, repeated each day. The 3 circuits can control 3 separate loads (pump, lights, spa etc) ... and control each with same or different schedule .... or the P1353ME can control 2-speed pool pump and 1 other load depending on which of the 6 modes is set. Has a Countdown feature.
Use 3 white buttons on face of timer to manually override programming, such as switching on the pool pump.

Each of the three 17 amp relays is rated for 1 Hp pump/motor at 120V AC, or 3 Hp at 240 volt AC.

Back of P1353ME
The electronics are protected by a fuse located on back of timer.

Default input voltage is 120V AC.
Or use jumper on back to select 240 volt AC. This is the voltage that powers the timer at terminals 1 and 2. Example wiring

The 3 relays at terminals 3 thru 8 are dry; They receive no voltage when terminals 1 and 2 are connected to power. Relays can control either 120V or 240V AC.
Power must be off before any wiring is done or accessories added.
There are accessory connections on back of timer for firemen's switch and Intermatic 178PA28A freeze sensor. See image of installation
Firemen switch turns off gas heater 15-20 minutes before pump is scheduled to turn off.
Freeze sensor will turn pump ON if temperatures drop near freezing.
Buy: 178PA28A

Has additional connection point for remote control via the 5-channel PE650ME tansceiver (antenna) that interfaces with hand held P953 controller.

Set Mode:
Use small tool and push Mode button located on face of timer, upper left side, and hold until display shows set mode, then use up-down arrows to choose mode.

Choose from 6 modes.
Mode 1: The 3 relays can each operate with different schedules.
Mode 2: Relay 3 operates independently, relays 1-2 operate together to control two speed pump.
Mode 3: Relay 2 operates independently, relays 1 and 3 operate together, with relay 3 turning on only after the relay 1 has been on for a specified time.
Mode 4: Relays 1-2 operate together to control 2 speed pump, relay 3 will only turn on after the other relays have been on for a specified time.
Mode 5: Relay 3 operates independently, relays 1-2 have same schedule as each other.
Mode 6: Same as Mode 1, except firemen switch cannot activate unless relay 1 is manually turned on.

Connect 120 or 240 VAC power to Terminals 1 and  2.

Default voltage is 120V... if tou have 240 volt, the change selector located back of timer BEFORE applying voltage to Terminals 1 and 2.

Different Modes let you select option based on equipment.

In Mode  1, the P1353 3-channel timer can 3 loads ... and control a single-speed pump plus 2 other loads, each with different schedule. Wiring is shown below.

If you have 2-speed pump, then set to Mode  2, and wire as shown on left. The timer can be programmed to schedule 2-speed operation, and can be wired for 1 additional load on terminals 7-8. This load can be a blower, or pool light or spa pump, or fountain etc, and will operate with different schedule.

Both wires MUST be same gauge
Straighten each wire
If wire is corroded or overheated, clean the end with sandpaper and wipe with cloth.
If wire has been melted, cut back and reattach, or replace wire.
Tighten screw very tight against copper wire

For people wanting hand-held wireless control over pool functions (and zwave devices), Intermatic makes the versatile hand held PE953 remote control that can be used to control the P1353ME timer shown above.
PE953
1) Use the water resistant, battery-operated hand-held PE953 remote control to override the 3-channel P1353ME timer shown above.
Use buttons 1-2-3 on remote control to override each of the 3 timer relays.

Intermatic PE650What to do: Drill 1-3/8" hole on top of control panel and install the discontinued PE650 transceiver antenna. Buy Tapered drill bit  Then plug one of the tranceiver connection cables into back of the P1353 timer, and this lets you use hand held PE953 to override the 3-channel timer. Read more  See images

The hand held PE953 will only communicate with 1 transceiver .... but the transceiver antenna has two connection cables and 4 addtional wires, so it can be connected to two devices: either two P1353ME timers shown above, two P4043ME valve actuators shown below, or one timer and one actuator.
The tranceiver has 4 additional wires to connect to pool heater firemen's switch and water temperature probe. See image
