Each 240Volt wiring diagram is different/ but each accomplishes same thing

Applies to GE15000 series, Intermatic GM40, Tork DTU 40, etc
When using black-and-white wires for 240Volt, add tape to white wire.
This action will tell next electrician that white wire carries power

Power connects to Terminals 1 and 2 and jumps to COM terminals
Load connected to NO terminals

Result: 240Volt water heater turns on-off with timer schedule

Why does this work: 240Volt load requires both Hot wires to complete circuit, so when 1 Hot is turned off, then load turns off.

GM 40 timer controls 2 water heaters

240Volt/ 2 Loads

Check that your timer is rated 40 amp.
This load requires 50 amp breaker and 8 gauge wire
Timer is at max capacity
Power connects to Terminals 1 and 2 and Jumps to COM terminals
Load connected to NO terminals

Result: both 240Volt water heaters turns on-off with timer schedule

240Volt/ and 120Volt/ 2 Loads

Check that your timer is rated 40 amp.
This load requires 50 amp breaker and 8 gauge wire
Timer is at max capacity

Power connects to Terminals 1 and 2 and Jumps to COM Terminals
240V Load connects to NO2 terminal and Terminal 2
120V Load connects to NO terminal and Neutral wire from breaker box

Result: both 240Volt water heaters turns on-off with timer schedule
GM 40 timer controls two water heater

240Volt/ 2 Loads/ Neither Load is ON at same time

Check that your timer NC terminals are included in switch rating.
Woods box timers might not be included.
This load requires 30 amp breaker and 10 gauge wire
Timer is at max capacity

Power connects to Terminals 1 and 2 and Jumps to COM Terminals
1st 240V Load connects to NO terminals
2nd 240V Load connects to NC terminals

Result: both 240Volt water heaters turns on-off, or off-on with timer schedule
