| Use only 600 volt wire. Lamp cord, extension cords are not rated 600 volt. Use copper wire only. Aluminum wire is fire risk and should be avoided or installed by professional. 30 amp breaker use 10 gauge / 120-240 volt 30 amp outlet can be installed on 30 amp breaker only/ use 10 gauge wire ... cannot be connected to 15-20-40 amp breaker.   Copper ground wire. Every device, load, metal enclosure etc must be grounded. Ground wire must be continuous throughout installation, never switched on-off, never used as a Neutral wire.  Non metallic flexible cables must carry ground wire, but do not have hazard of short circuit causing injury from shock. Armored steel cable can be used as a grounded connection, and will protect wires from damage. Metal can be energized from an insulation failure. All conduit ...metal, plastic ... flexible and rigid ... must be attached to structure, and attached to enclosures, boxes. Movement, damage and deterioration are major cause of electrical failure. Always best to disconnect power, but insulation failure, lack of proper grounding, grounded neutral, lack of GFCI, out-of-code wiring, generator operating without transfer switch, and other problems still pose a risk to anyone working on electric power ... even when breaker is off.  600 volt 12 ga Stranded wire ot THHN wire is good for conduit with multiple wires ... but stranded cannot be installed under screw terminals on outlets, switches, timers etc without risk ... of heat causing splayed strands ....that come loose ... and begin to arc. Connect stranded to short piece of solid copper wire, and attach solid to screw terminal. Do not solder residential or commercial wiring. Project wire, extension cords, thermostat, bell and automotive wire are not rated for residential or commercial wiring. Only wire maked 600 volt can be used for permanent household wiring.   Electrically insulated tools When removing insulation from wire, do NOT score or put cuts on surface of copper wire. Doing so increases resistance and heat on wire and creates possible weak point.  Multimeters Voltage is tested across two separate wires. Ohms or resistance is tested across both ends of same wire. Amperage is tested along one or two points on same wire.  T12404R with two T104 timers for
filter and cleanerSupply voltage is 240 volts that connects to Terminals 1 and 2 on Filter timer. Both timers have a clock motor that rotates the yellow dial once per day. The dial can have up to 12 sets of trippers for 12 ON-Off periods each day. Both clock motors are connected to terminals 1 and 2 on the Filter timer. The terminals on Cleaner timer receive no voltage unless the Filter timer is ON. This assures that pool cleaner can only run when the filter pump is ON. Filter pump must be ON so debris from the pool can be run through the sand filter. |

 Each timer on different breaker/
2 circuit breakersIllustation shows a method for running the filter pump and cleaner on separate circuit breakers. This came from an email question from a fellow who was experiencing overload on 1 circuit breaker, and wanted to install second breaker to run the cleaner. The contactor turns ON when filter timer is ON. The contactor closes circuit so cleaner timer receives power. Whe cleaner turns ON, it is powered from the second circuit breaker.  Fireman switch is not wired with
voltage at timerDo NOT connect any voltage to wires on fireman switch. The fireman switch is connected to two wires or terminals on pool heater. The terminals at heater carry 24 volt that run to the fireman switch located on timer. As the timer dial rotates, the off tripper comes into contact with the fireman switch. This activates the switch, causing the heater to turn off approximately 20 minutes before the filter pump turns off. This prevents heater from running when the pump is off. But the heater does not require a timer with fireman switch. The heater has it's own control system and thermostat that operate completely independent of the Intermatic timer. The heater has a pressure switch that turns off automatically when water pressure in the water line drops. So when pump turns off, the water slows down, and heater turns off. In addition to the pressure switch, the heater also has high limit switch that automatically turns off heater if water inside pipe is too hot. The limit switch gives heater a back up system if the pressure switch or thermostat fail. However in some cases, you want the timer to turn off the heater before the pump turns off, so hot water is not left inside the pipe. Purpose of fireman switch is to turn off heater 15-20 minutes before the pump. That ensures maximum utilization of hot water, and ensures heater is not ON unless timer is ON. The fireman switch provides additional layer of fail safe for the heater. And then both pump and heater work together to maximum efficiency and protection. |

 Troubleshoot
T12404R-Flip circuit breaker fully off and then back on. -Check that both clock motors are connected to terminals 1 and 2 on the Filter timer. -Observe if both clock dials are rotating 1 revolution per day. If dials are not rotating, then clock motor is bad, unit is not getting voltage, or is getting incorrect voltage. -Convert timer to either 120 Volt or 240 volt by changing clock motor Buy: 240 volt clock motor for T12402R 120 volt clock motor for T10101R -Check if each clock dial has ON and OFF trippers fastened to yellow dial. -Move both override levers to ON position. If Filter pump is OFF and Cleaner pump is OFF, then move both override levers to ON position. If Filter pump works and Cleaner pump works, then voltage is correct and wiring is correct. -If all the above steps function correctly, observe if the trippers push the override lever back and forth between ON position and OFF position. If the dial rotates tripper past the override lever, and override lever does not change position, then most likely problem is worn trippers need to be replaced.  Buy:

Look at rating plate on motor for voltage and amperage requirements. - Convert control center timers to either 120 Volt or 240 volt by changing clock motor Buy: 240 volt clock motor for T12402R 120 volt clock motor for T10101R -If the above steps check OK, then check terminal connections and wires. Max 2 wires under a terminals. Do not use stranded wire. Clean corroded wires with sandpaper, or use white vinegar to help dissolve build-up on terminals. Tighten screws very tight against copper wire. Use only copper wire. |
