Gas Water Heater Timer |
Current gas water heater timer on
market Control gas water heater with wifi The Aquanta wifi-controlled gas water heater timer interfaces with the COM port on WV series Honeywell gas valve for atmospheric heaters. It does not interface with power vent Honeywell, but works with power vented heater by connecting to incoming voltage. This means the Aquanta works with both types of Honewell gas valves Aquanta does not work with mechanical gas valves. The
Aquanta has a TP connection All water heaters are required to have a TP valve. NO exceptions. The TP valve will respond to temperature and pressure emergencies that occur for variety of reasons. The TP valve is "installed so that the temperature sensing element (probe) is immersed in the hottest water ... the hottest water is located in top six inches of the tank." Resource pg 6 The Aquanta requires temporary removal of TP valve so the Aquanta sensing probe can be installed ... and afterwards the TP valve is reinstalled. TP must be re-installed and can NEVER be capped off. The Aquanta installation does NOT violate code as long as TP valve probe is inside the tank. The TP valve probe will not work if the end of it is not inside the tank. Aquanta TP installation will void water heater warranty if manufacturer is aware. Do not report that you are using Aquanta. |

Aquanta
works with WV
series Honeywell gas
valve for atmospheric
heaters Aquanta wifi receiver has a cable that connects to COM port or communication port on WV series gas valve. I aasume it also works with the Honeywell WT series. Aquanta Wifi or any secondary connection to gas valve etc will void water heater warranty if manufacturer is aware. Do not report that you are using Aquanta. Unknown if Aquanta is approved by Honeywell for connection to the gas valve? It is possible the connection to COM port was accomplished separate from Honeywell. The Aquanta has been on market since 2014 as near as I can tell. A timer called the setback controller was available from Bradford White around 2007 ? The setback controller used a 24 volt interface with COM port on the WV series gas valve. It did not offer Wifi. It was a programmable timer with two on-off per day. My assumption about the setback controller was it was done in cooperation with Honeywell. The setback controller was discontinued for residential heaters with the WV gas valve, but seems to be available on some Bradford White commercial gas water heaters as a building management control. The setback controller from Bradford White in 2007 implies there is no harm caused by connecting to COM port using Aquanta in 2021. |
