How to make curved font in Photoshop

curved font in Photoshop

Curved Font

New workspace
Open Photoshop Elements
Go to File, New, Blank file,
Select 600 x 660 size, RBG, white, OK
The workspace opens with white layer.
Menu bar
The menu bar is located at top of workspace.
Go to Edit and note Undo. You can use this to reverse any prior action.
Go to Image and click transform, and note free transform, skew and distort. You can select these to bend layers.
Go to Edit, Preferences, General, put checkmark in zoom scroll with mouse.
Now you can scroll in and out using scroll wheel on mouse.
Layers
Go to Windows on the menu bar, and put checkmark next to Layers
The layers pane open on right side of workspace.
You can see the white layer in the layers pane.
We are going start with the Type Tool to type text, and it will automatically make a new layer.
Then we are going to make a duplicate layer of the text.
So ultimately we are going to have 4 layers. 1 White layer and 3 text layers.
You can only work on one layer at a time.
Click on layer and it hightlights in blue to signify that the layer is active.
Next to each layer is an eyeball. Click eyeball on and off to make layer visible or invisible.
Toolbar
The toolbar is located on left side of workspace.

Hover mouse over each tool to identify function.
We are going to use Horizontal Type Tool, and Move Tool.
Each tool has optional settings.
Click on a tool.
And the options appear at bottom of workspace
For example the Type tool has selection of fonts, left align, center, Bold, size, etc.

Type text and make duplicate layer
Select type tool. Type text, select font and font size.
Make a second layer of the text. Go to Layers on the menu bar, and choose duplicate layer.

Make one layer invisible
We have 2 layers with text.
Choose 1 layer, and click eyeball to make invisible.
Click mouse on other layer to activate. We will work on one layer of text.

Warp the text
Click Text tool, and click on text, then select 'create warped text' in the tool options.
Warped Text box comes up.
Select style.
This example uses Arc style.
Experiment with slide bars to find right combination of bend and shape.
Click OK
Now you have a layer with warped text.
But we can do more, if you want.
Make duplicate layer of the warped text
Select type tool. Type text, select color, font and font size.
Make a layer of the text. Go to Layers on the menu bar, and choose duplicate layer.
Now you have 4 layers. 1 white layer, 1 invisible text layer, and 2 warped text layers.

Make one warped text layer invisible
Choose 1 layer of warped text, and click eyeball to make invisible.
Click mouse on other warped layer to activate.
Simplify layer
Right-click warped layer and select simplify layer.
The text is no longer text, and cannot be edited with the text tool anymore.
If the layer is not simplified, then the following steps will not work.
Shape the warped layer using distort
Go to Image on menu bar and click transform, and choose distort.
Using the points at each corner of layer, you can experiment with different distortions.
Choose free transform to rotate layer.

Go to Edit on menu bar and Undo to reverse any action...
Your curved font is done.
Other effects:
The possibility of effects is up to your imagination, and not all methods are covered here.
But here are some ideas to get started...

Go to Filter on menu bar, Correct camera distortion and try different effects.

Click on the layer, hold down mouse and click Ctrl key to highlight text.
The text is selected.
Go to
Layers on menu bar create new blank layer. Not a duplicate layer, but a blank layer.
Use color picker and paint brush located on tool bar to add color to the text.

Go to Filter, adjustment layer, gradient, to add hues to the selected text.
Rotate the gradient.

When finished, go to Select on menu bar and deselect.
If you don't like the gradient, make the gradient layer invisible.
Or use the Opacity slider located above the layers pane, to make the gradient layer more transparent.
Save curved font
Go to File, Save as and save the .psd file.
This will let you edit the file again later.

Go to File, Save for Web.
The select size and quality of picture.
For eBooks, you might select very high quality, 400 pixel wide.
For website, facebook etc, usually medium quality is good.
