Add element to any steel or plastic tank
Water heater elements are 1" straight thread, not tapered pipe thread...
Pipe thread has a taper so the pipe naturally tightens the
more you turn.
Water heater elements have same threads-per-inch as pipe thread, but
the threads are straight.... not tapered.
The element depends on rubber washer to seal ... Plus elements depends
on a smooth seat for the washer.
Element will not seal reliably if tapered pipe thread is used.... or if
the seat is not perfectly flat and smooth.

The thread and washer are similar to a water heater element ,,, both
have straight thread with a rubber washer that must seat flat against
the surface of plastic or metal tank, bucket etc..
The bulkhead fitting is made to connect to side of plastic or metal
container.
Use for rain barrel storage system etc
Some bulkhead fittings come with Tapered pipe thread on the
inside, so you can connect the bulkhead to pipe thread.
Other bulkheads are smooth on the inside .... made for PVC-ABS
solvent-weld connection.
