Wolf commodity
Continually we see the public adopt new products and suddenly every
home has one. For example cell phones or computers or dishwashers or
cars.
Just as frequently as new products emerge, old products fall into
disfavor disappear. For example the meat grinder that was found in
every American kitchen after the Second World War.
Wouldn’t it be interesting to travel back through time and see the
advance and decline of products? What about a metal plow? Imagine the
first metal pot. At some point in history, a metal pot appeared in
every kitchen. The western Indians were won over for need of metal
utensils.
So I just read an article on the dog. It was talking about the
domestication of dogs and how every breed was a descendant of the wild
wolf. The analysis was discussing ‘flight distance’ and imagined that
wolves who were less likely to run from humans were more successful.
I suspect that wolves were trapped, and that the cubs were
domesticated.
It doesn’t matter how it happened actually, but probably at some point
in history, wolf cubs became a popular item much like a DVD player, and
a brisk trade emerged for the commodity.
