Illustration #1 Shows:
Mixing valve connection.
Use a mixing valve when temperatures inside tank exceed 130°F.
Mixing valve adds cold water to hot water that leaves tank.
Use mixing valve to temper the Hot water supply to prevent scalding at sink.
Set tank temperature at 140°F, and set mixing valve to 120°F and customer receives safe 120°F hot water.
Importantly, the hot water supply inside tank is stretched out, giving the tank more reserve hot water to meet peak demand.
This strategy might allow usage of smaller more economical storage tank.
