Tesla Powerwall 2 Update
I comment:
A giant home like that with all those windows is being touted as an example of energy success..?
P respond:s
Maybe
the windows are double pane and coated with solar film.. maybe they are
strategically placed facing south to warm the home in the winter.
Perhaps there is a solarium behind that big window... we don't know.
What we know is that this photo is associated with this report of one
person's experience. "Energy efficiency" is not necessarily the same as
"small window." ANYONE with ANY kind of house can transition to clean
renewable energy. That's the point of this article.
I comment:
Maybe
an unheated trailer with single pane windows that houses 6 people is
better example for per capita energy saving ... rather that handing out
energy stars for double or triple pane windows that (by comparison)
consume massive energy to construct and install on a ginormous house
that serves average family of 4 ... while touting 8' high steel and
conduit powerwall filled with plastic-coated copper wire that took
truckloads of material and men just to delver to homesite ... let alone
energy cost of manufacturing, promoting, packaging, or recycling all
that stuff ... and since all costs are energy ... unless you can prove
otherwise with some sort of logic ... it means only one thing to me ...
that the energy conversation has been co-opted by government standards
established by makers and buyers of convenience and excess that have
nothing to do with actual energy impact per human. This facebook user
posted a few days ago an article that gave pros and cons for
California's new rooftop solar requirement that showed rooftop solar
was 6-12 (Error: article said 2 to 6) times more costly per generated
power than large scale solar arrays ... and I was telling folks this
several years ago ... and took a beating over it ... and lost some
facebooks friends lol ... because the greenie weenies had all that
product promotion beat into their heads without any source for opposing
views that showed the simple calculations. We are blinded by product
promotion ... and 5-10 years from now, folks who are genuinely wanting
to solve the save-the-earth problem will say the same.
E responds:
P Thanks. I found the information interesting which is why I posted it.
Neuman responds:
Windows let in light and warmth in winter!
E responds again:
Exactly. Looks like those windows, along with the SOLAR are on the S side of the home.
I comment::
Y'all
be saying what I'm saying in about 5 years ... as soon as somebody
figure out a way to make a profit off it... in mean time, keep
imagining that home is built to harvest the exact angle of sun needed
to exceed the heat loss through giant panes of glass (as J L's house,
who you know) ... y'all simply wrong-headed about it ... but then I
know there's profit to be made on facebook by PROMOTING rooftop solar
and giant walls of metal and conduit ... and no money to be made by
doing simple per capita math ... and moreover the windows got nothing
to do with what I was saying .... so none of u are talking about per
capita energy as my post was about ... and newman ... u one of the
folks that kept telling me I was wrong a couple years ago about
cost-benefit of rooftop solar vs commercial arrays ... when straight
truth was found in the article posted on this site a few days ago about
the pro-con of California rooftop solar mandate ... look it up ....
it's time to start talking about real facts and not imaginary energy
saving from building giant homes that house 4-5 people.
(This comment was deleted of course)
I've
lost a number of friends over basic math applied to energy issues ...
former friends who have been sold a bill o goods ... who actually
believe there is a 'product' you can buy that will solve the massive
energy and pollution problem created by buying products.... You want to
save the earth? Do with less. Fix up, re-purpose, reduce driving,
recycle every shred, and don't run a vacuum cleaner when broom and
dustpan will work.
But maybe I'm a bit too abrasive ... like running a grinder when a softly spoken word will work.
