Toilet doesn't flush and the Water just spins.
Nothing seems to go down.
I had this problem after taking up an old toilet and then re-setting it.
My house has hard water and iron.
So I cleaned out the tank using shop vac to suck upo all the debris settled in bottom of tank.
But I didn't notice that some of the gunk inside the tank also went
down the flush valve.
Once something goes down the flush valve, it enters a hollow area that
circles the bowl.
This hollow area is where the water goes when you pull the flush lever.
The hollow area floods with water, and then the water enters the bowl
through small holes at the top of the bowl.
When gunk went down in the hollow area, it stopped up the holes. These holes were getting stopped up anyway by the hard water, but more gunk stopped them up further.
The water still came out the holes when the toilet was flushed.
But the amount of water entering the bowl was slowed by the gunk
filling the holes.
Ah-ha. I concluded, the toilet was not flushing because the water didn't enter the
bowl fast enough.
I went to Home Depot and got a gallon of CLR.
Calcium Lime and Rust remover.
The CLR was put down the flush valve.
You can also pour it down the overflow tube using a funnel.
I put it straight down the flush valve because I wanted to put a lot of
CLR into the hollow area all at once.
Putting a large amount of CLR let the CLR flow all around the hollow
area.
I used cup after cup of the CLR until the brown gunk started running
down into the bowl.
That is how I salvaged my toilet.
It flushed fine afterward.
