Agreeing to a smart meter is agreeing to
peak pricing. Aug 2010
If consumers all expect to save money with 'off peak' pricing, then
electric company revenues will fall. Yet building the smart grid is
expected to cost billions. Its nonsense to believe the smart grid can
be built by companies with falling revenues. And its appalling math to
believe that juggling production has enough margin to give customer
savings plus added revenue for grid build-out.
Prices must go up, and once your smart meter is in place, electric
companies can charge you for peak times >>> and
your consumption peaks just as you arrive home from work and turn on
TV, shower and cook. Ultimately individual consumers will be bidding in
a seller's market, against one another, and against large users, and
against game-software at a website that knows your IP address, home
address, and exact consumption history. I bet on the electric company
to win.
